Maples (fall 2020)

During the first summer of lockdown, to fill the time I used to spend outside of my house, I started teaching myself printmaking. The blocks for these images started from tracings of leaves from the maple tree in my backyard. I worked outdoors for both the carving and the printing, hanging my prints on a line like my grandmother used to hang laundry. The prints evolved into an exploration of what’s possible with inks, both black and colored.
